As we discussed in class, each of you are responsible for posting on your blog images and commentary representative of the work you did this semester, including:

1. The full value drawings, pencil
2. The reduction drawings, charcoal
3. The color wheel and value scale, acrylic
4. The monochrome egg or ball value painting
5. The two part organic painted object study
6. The Self Portrait, mixed media
7. The written analysis of an observed 2-D work by a contemporary artist.

This list is in addition to the work from the first half.
Tuesday, December 13 is our last class. All work should be complete and up loaded by this time. Hard copies should be brought to class in some kind of portfolio, where each of you will be expected to talk for five minutes about your work; the successes, the challenges and what you learned. You are welcome to bring food and/or drinks that day as well. All work must be picked up by December 20th.

Down The Home Stretch

This is a reminder that we have three class meetings left and quite a bit of work that has to be accounted for. Your challenge is to do it well and on time. The three main projects you will be graded on include: 1.Your written analysis, 2.Your portfolio of semester work, and 3.Your Blog which should include everything in the portfolio along with commentary. There will also be a final vocabulary test covering all the chapters we read.

My next posting will include a more specific list of the projects we worked on during the semester for those that requested it. I have seen some excellent work in this class and look forward to reviewing your final projects, especially the self portraits when they are complete. Good luck!

All blogs are expected to be current by Tuesday 11-29 at noon. This includes everything up until the color wheel. Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving! Oh, and don't forget we have quiz on value, space and color vocabulary as well.

Cookies

Your project this weekend is to do a reductive drawing (eraser drawing) of two or three cookies. I want to stress that this is a representational composition that includes the positive as well as the negative spaces. You are responsible for making it interesting and informative. The cookies or crackers need to be larger than life. Your can choose whatever cookies you like. The egg drawing is also due. This is the last chance to get credit for it. Good luck.

For the second half of the semester each of you will be responsible for posting classroom projects on your blogs on a regular basis without me reminding you. Each project should have at least one image and a short explanation. Your blogs will be part of your Final Review so make them count.

Okay, midterm time has passed and now on to the second half. As I said in class, you all had it pretty easy so far but have done well, so now you can expect me to turn up the heat a bit with more challenging assignments. The one day montage project was to be done on Tuesday, 11 - 01. We will talk about those on Thursday as well as the egg drawing in full value. We will also go over the vocabulary quiz from last week and I 'll give you individual feedback on the portfolio/blog review. See you then.

Let's see if we can get this calligraphic line assignment done by Thursday as well. Bring your 100 or so signatures to class on Tuesday and read chapter 3, "Line." If it is well done and posted on your blog by Thursday, it will earn extra credit points for your midterm grade.

It is hard to believe but Thursday, October 27 will be midterm for us here in 2-D. What I will need to see from each of you on that day is the following:
1.The thumbnail drawing exercise
2. The five geometric word interpretations w/thumbnails
3. The figure/ground project w/thumbnails
4. The Form and Variety assignment
5. Your own personal Blog with the following postings:

a. Defense of your blog design
b. The best photo you have ever taken and why
c. Your figure ground assignment with comment
d. Your answers to chapter 2 questions w/image of your favorite 2-D artist
e. A brief, 2 or 3 paragraph review explaining your understanding of the photo exhibit we saw.
f. Comments on at least three of your classmate's blogs
g. Links to all of your classmate's blogs

Columbus Day update

I am pleased that everyone in the class has done so well in getting to this point with their blogs. Now that everyone has their Blog up and running I suggest we spend the next couple of weeks testing it out by looking in on each other's blogs, posting comments and exploring ways to post our own images. You might also want to try searching the net for other interesting blogs. As this experience of integrating both the notebook and the blog into the 2D class is a new and experimental one, I encourage you all to look for new ways to do it that would enhance our classroom experience and continue to share what you learn with the rest of us.

By now I hope you have all had the chance to create your own blog. For the sake of uniformity you should have made the address bsc2dyourname.blogspot.com. For your first posting you should have written a paragraph or more describing why you chose the blog design that you did. What I would like for you to do next is to figure out the best way to post images of your work using either a digital camera or a scanner.

For those of you who have never blogged before, this is an opportunity to investigate a new and effective way to communicate with images and ideas. Please spend some time exploring the options and then design your own Web Blog and provide me the URL. We are going to use these blogs to talk about our work in class.
